TIKZN to participate in Durban FilmMart

Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) is the official Investment Promotion Agency for the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The organisation’s mandate is to promote foreign direct investment into the province and to assist local, well established companies to gain access to export markets. In an effort to promote KwaZulu-Natal as an attractive film destination, TIKZN will be participating in the Durban FilmMart component of the Durban International Film Festival, from the 23-26 July 2010.

The Durban FilmMart, which is hosted and managed by the Durban Film Office and the Durban International Film Festival, aims to facilitate collaboration and interaction between African and international filmmakers by bringing visibility to African film content.

TIKZN will collaborate with key stakeholders such as the Durban Film Office and other industry players to seek investors willing to fund new film projects. When films are set on location in the province, it not only highlights the beauty of KZN, but it also creates job opportunities and promotes tourism in the province as well. Film, sometimes referred to as “manufacturing on the move”, due to the fact that it is shot at various rural and city locations, is an attractive investment sector with great potential.

TIKZN’s objectives are to network with African filmmakers, financiers and other key role players in the industry to see how ideas can be collaborated to showcase the beauty that KwaZulu-Natal has to offer to African and international filmmakers. The organisation plays a facilitative role in terms of arranging meetings with financiers, by creating linkages and identifying potential partners for projects. Furthermore, TIKZN facilitates large investment opportunities from strategic partners and packages and promotes these opportunities both locally and abroad. 

TIKZN is therefore committed to supporting this industry and will continue to work with key industry stakeholders to ensure that KZN is promoted as an attractive investment destination for the film sector.
