TIKZN strengthening trade and investment ties with India

Representatives from Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal embarked on a preliminary mission to India earlier this year to attend the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) Global Summit on trade and investment and to follow-up on valuable leads in Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin and Chennai.

During the first part of the mission, Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal attended the AIAI Conference in Mumbai and presented investment opportunities to attending delegates. A number of follow-up opportunities were also pursued and new leads generated with Mahindra & Mahindra, Yes Bank, First Rand India, the Confederation of Indian Industries, the All India Association of Industries and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce.

Amongst companies visited in Delhi, Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal met with Kanoria Chemicals to investigate the establishment of a caustic soda plant in Richards Bay. Meetings were also held with the MIR Group in Cochin. The group displayed keen interest in hotel developments and infrastructure projects. The Indian Chamber of Commerce also demonstrated an interest in tourism opportunities and consumer goods.

Sixth India Conclave: Celebrating Partnerships Conference

Following Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal’s preliminary Indian mission, a further visit, inclusive of a business delegation, took place in March.

Top of the agenda was attendance at the India Conclave: Celebrating Partnerships Conference, which was followed by attending seminars and meetings in Kolkata and Mumbai.

Companies joining the Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal delegation included the Ed Rose Group, Shivsen Investment Holdings, Quarters on the Park, Puello Trading, Masa-a-Sele Procurement Services (Pty) Ltd and Nirvana Development Project.

“The post-conference activities were centered on specific programmes designed by Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal, as well as Department of Trade and Industry representatives in India, to expose the delegation to companies in the cities of Kolkata and Mumbai. Meetings were pre-arranged with Indian companies to ensure project-specific discussions as a means of shortening timeframes for the implementation of pipeline projects,” said Ms DonneƒVe Kruger, Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal’s Manager of the Gauteng Office.

Company-specific meetings were set-up in Mumbai for tourism and resource companies. In view of the positive interest engaged with Indian companies, Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal continues to drive its mandate as the official Investment Promotion Agency for KwaZulu-Natal,  aiming to promote and boost foreign direct investment in the province as well as assist local companies to access international markets.
